Van Gogh Sunflowers
Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands, 1853 - 1890. He did not embark upon a career as an artist until 1880. Most of his best-known works were produced in the final two years of his life. Van Gogh painted many Sunflower theme paintings in various stages of life. The earlier series executed in Paris in 1887 depicts the flowers lying on the ground, while the second set executed a year later in Arles shows bouquets of sunflowers in a vase. Several versions of the sunflowers in a vase were done, this necklace is of the 4th version which is now displayed in London. "One of the decorations of sunflowers on royal blue ground has 'a halo', that is to say each object is surrounded by a glow of the complementary color of the background against which it stands out."
