Squares with Concentric Circles, 1913
Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky 1866-1944 was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited as the father of abstract art. At the age of 30, Kandinsky gave up a promising career teaching law and economics to enroll in art school in Munich. He was especially taken form and color analysis and created paintings he referred to as compositions as music was a great inspiration to him while he painted. "Squares with Concentric Circles" was created by Kandinsky in 1913. In true abstract form, he attempted and succeeded in creating a firestorm of feelings and emotions, with his use of bright colors, mixed with more-earthy hues. The square shape begins to radiate and transform into essentially a circular shape with each, overlapping of color and design. This painting is regarded as perhaps the finest abstract works of art, in the history of art itself.
