Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a prominent member of the Vienna Secession movement He is well known for his portraits, murals, sketches and even rich tapestry like landscapes. Born in 1862, Klimt attended the Vienna University of Arts and Crafts in 1876 and formed the “Company of Artists” with his two brothers and a friend, after which he was awarded the Golden Order of Merit from the Emperor of Vienna. In 1892, his father and one of his brothers died, leaving him responsible for their families. The family tragedy also affected his artistic vision, which helped him develop his own personal style. Born: 14 July 1862; Baumgarten, Austria Died: 06 February 1918; Vienna, Austria. His popular painting "Flower Garden" was done between 1905 and 1907 and is one of only a few floral paintings Klimt produced. It is a beautiful tapestry of colorful flowers and greenery executed in his contemporary Art Nouveau style which was influenced by the organic forms of the early Arts and Crafts movement.
