This Van Gogh Necktie makes an excellent Van Gogh gift for art teachers, art enthusiasts and any guy who loves ties! This Van Gogh tie features the iconic Almond Blossoms painting which is d on a 100% Microfiber necktie. The painting was executed in 1889, there are no known drawings of the piece, probably because Van Gogh did it as a study. The use of dark contours in Irises is a typical element of Japanese Woodblock prints which Van Gogh admired, and he used these strong elements to reinforce the expressive power of the painting. Irises is on the list of the most expensive paintings ever sold, selling for 54 million dollars in 1987. It is currently on display at the Getty Center in Los Angeles California.
Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands, 1853 - 1890. He did not embark upon a career as an artist until 1880. He was supported by his brother Theo who submitted many of his work to the Salon Des Independents in France. Most of his best-known works were produced in the final two years of his life. Blossoming Almond Tree which was painted in 1890 is one of Vincent Van Gogh's best-known paintings. It is noteworthy that both Van Gogh and his closest family held the work in high regard. This painting is one of a small handful that Van Gogh produced with a particular person in mind, in this case, his brother and sister-in-law's newborn baby. Van Gogh was deeply moved when Theo and Johanna chose to name the child Vincent and he always harbored a great deal of affection for him. Van Gogh painted Blossoming Almond Tree to honor his namesake and it remains a tour-de-force, both the product of Vincent's fondness for his nephew as well as the Japanese art which he so greatly admired.
