Salvador Dali was born in Spain in 1904 and lived until 1989. He is known as a surrealist painter. Salvador Dali's expansive artistic repertoire includes film, sculpture, and photography, in collaboration with a range of artists in a variety of media. He worked with many artist including Picasso. Later in his career Dali created many paintings, lithographs and sculptures with variants on the theme of soft watches and melting clocks. This painting, "The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory" is an oil on canvas painting and was worked on from 1952-1954. It now hangs in the Salvador Dali Museum, St. Petersburg, Florida.
